Hi guys. I am back with another post on market and marketing issues. This time its more a personal thing but I am sure it affects us all the same way. Particularly if you are an employer looking for fresh recruits. I will share with you my present precarious condition while I plan to hire one or two content writers for a client.

One of my clients  recently asked me to get them two content writers. It was originally my suggestion for giving a boost to their web promotions. Now they need me to screen the writers as I am very strict about the quality of language on websites. My clients posted a news paper advertisement and a monster job posting. They got good responses too. They handed me over a list of candidates and asked me to screen them and hire the best. I have a dilemma though. The pay package is a limited thing. I cannot simply hire the best, I have to hire the most cost effective writer. Now those who have 5-7 years of experience are looking for a compensation over 450k a year. That is well beyond what my client can afford. We should be ideally looking for candidates with an work experience of 1-2 years.

The wizened owner of a travel company, my client, reckons I should be able to get him a good deal as its recession and people are easy to hire for a small pay. But here are some points of interest I have noted during this recruitment process.
1.Every one I called had a job. So negotiating on the pay is tough.
2.Every candidate is being paid well. There is no underpaid employee whom you could win over.
3.Certain candidates declined the offer citing its not very close to their residence.
4.Four of them said they cant work so long (9 hours shift).
5.Two of them did not like the offer because we do not provide cab service. Hardly some company in New Delhi provides cabs unless its a BPO working late night.
6.Every one of the 21 candidates I called wanted to switch for a new job if the pay was good. That means our chances of retaining them for long are remote.
Any how I did manage to get 10 people for the final interview. Lets see if we can get a good recruit this week end. Let me know if you have similar stories to share.

To hell with recession. We don't see  people who are desperate for a job. What's the pandemonium about then? It is far easier to recruit engineers I guess than to recruit a content writer.
