Yahoo Search in Danger after Key Engineer Sean Suchter leaves for Microsoft

The billion dollar question has picked up steam as the news of Key Engineer of Yahoo Search Algorithm Sean Suchter, the VP of Search Technology has been successfully seduced by Microsoft. Sean was also deeply involved in Yahoo’s efforts to open up its search platform, which experts believed was to brighten Y’s presence in Search and Advertise domain. Though Yahoo has authenticated the news Microsoft is yet to announce and welcome the new star arrival.

Sean Suchter had joined Yahoo in its early days in search engine business just after it acquired Inktomi in 2003. So we can fairly understand how important a player would he have been for Yahoo Search.

Yahoo search is currently the Second most preferred search engine on the World Wide Web. Though it’s a lot behind Google and marginally ahead of Microsoft it was doing a good job in online search market. Now that Microsoft has got one of the generals of Yahoo army the tech world will have to wait and watch how long does it take Microsoft to outshine Yahoo as the second most popular search engine in the world. That’s not all. Both Google and Yahoo have been known to have made bids for acquiring yahoo. If Google succeeds then Microsoft will have a hard time trying to catch up with Google market share. On the other hand if Microsoft gets Yahoo then we brace ourselves for the biggest battle online.

The odds are that it is being increasingly difficult for Yahoo to match the spending of Google and Microsoft in search technology. The biggest support behind Yahoo’s search adventures is none other than Gerry Yang, the founder himself. But given the speculation of Yang’s retirement will Yahoo continue to stay in Search and PPC market. Yahoo has been known to fuel Microsoft’s search results till live came in. So if Yahoo sells its search engine part to Microsoft it will make sure their revenue continues to flow in better than before. One situation still remains though. May be yahoo will stay in the market all by itself and give the suitors a hard time.
