Goa is the smallest of Indian states area wise and the fourth smallest in population. It is bordered by Maharashtra and Karnataka, two large States in the North, East and South. To the west of Goa lies the Arabian Sea. It was through the sea route by which the Portuguese traders arrived in Goa and soon took over the territory. After about 450 years it was annexed into the Indian Union in 1961 in a military action by the Indian army codenamed “Operation Vijay”.
